Job description

The Software Development Engineer will join the EKS KCP Scalability team at Amazon, focusing on solving complex distributed systems challenges. This role involves designing, building, and operating systems that ensure reliable and performant control planes for EKS customers. The engineer will work across the full stack, engaging with the Kubernetes community and owning systems from design to production operations. The team is dedicated to maintaining performance, availability, and autoscaling for Kubernetes control planes.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and code reviews

Responsibilities

  • Build and operate the Vertical Auto-Scaling Service (VAS) and its successor VAS 2.0.
  • Work on the SLA measurement pipeline to enforce EKS's uptime commitments.
  • Contribute to the control plane architecture for EKS Ultraclusters.
  • Maintain and extend version release qualification scale tests for Kubernetes.
  • Engage with the upstream Kubernetes community to drive KEPs based on EKS customer requirements.
  • Investigate breaching clusters weekly and build automation to detect and mitigate degradation.
