Job description
The Apple iPhone Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) is responsible for driving the development of key mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This hands-on role involves collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Manufacturing Design partners. The MDE will focus on automation and fixture design activities to improve manufacturing efficiency and reduce costs. The position requires innovative thinking and technical expertise in automation and robotics applications.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working on automation, robotics applications, and fixture design for mass production applications
- BS/MS in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, robotics, or equivalent)
- Extensive experience using CAD to review and design mechanical components and complex assemblies
- Ability to reconcile DFM feedback with design goals and anticipate risk
- Fluent spoken and written English skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts
Responsibilities
- Drive automation and fixture design activities for key manufacturing processes
- Innovate on assembly fixture designs through brainstorming and CAD conceptualization
- Work with engineering teams to identify automation needs and provide design feedback
- Develop modular designs for component fixturing to maximize capital equipment reuse
- Execute proof of concept and maintain and resolve issues lists during design reviews
