Job description
The Apple iPhone Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) plays a crucial role in developing mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This hands-on position involves collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Manufacturing Design partners. The MDE is responsible for driving automation and fixture design activities to enhance manufacturing efficiency. The role requires innovative thinking to improve part yields and reduce costs through effective design solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working on automation, robotics applications, and fixture design for mass production applications.
- Machine and fixture design expertise.
- Experience designing, deploying, qualifying, supporting, and project managing automated manufacturing process lines.
- Extensive experience using CAD to review and design mechanical components and create engineering part drawings using GD&T practices.
- BS/MS in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, robotics, or equivalent).
- 25% domestic and international travel required.
- Fluent spoken and written English skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts.
Responsibilities
- Drive automation and fixture design activities for key manufacturing processes.
- Innovate on assembly fixture designs through brainstorming and CAD conceptualization.
- Work with engineering teams to identify automation needs and provide design feedback.
- Drive detailed design reviews and iterate on new fixture concepts.
- Develop modular designs for component fixturing to maximize capital equipment reuse.
- Implement data logging and traceability requirements.
- Define qualification requirements for FAT/SAT.
