Job description

The Staff Software Engineer for Linux Kernel Memory Management at Google will lead the design, development, and implementation of new features and optimizations within the Linux kernel memory management subsystem. This role is part of the AI and Infrastructure team, which focuses on delivering AI and infrastructure capabilities at scale. The engineer will collaborate with the open-source Linux kernel community and provide technical leadership to other engineers. The position requires a strong background in software engineering and a passion for solving complex problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience programming in C++.
  • 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks.
  • 5 years of experience testing and launching software products.
  • 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with Linux Kernel Internals, Memory Management, C, Linux Kernel, Operating Systems, and Debugging/Troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of new features and optimizations within the Linux kernel memory management subsystem.
  • Define and drive the technical strategy and roadmap for future memory architectures to enhance performance and reduce Total Cost of Ownership.
  • Lead efforts in areas such as memory tiering, Non-Uniform Memory Access optimization, swap, memory overcommit, and integration of new memory technologies.
  • Collaborate with the open-source Linux kernel community, driving Google's requirements and contributions upstream.
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to other engineers on the team.
