Job description

The Lakehouse Performance Engineer at IBM will focus on enhancing the performance and cost-efficiency of the watsonx.data platform. This role involves hands-on benchmarking, workload engineering, and performance observability to ensure high standards are met across releases. The engineer will work closely with various teams to analyze performance data and drive improvements. This position is crucial for maintaining IBM's competitive edge in the open lakehouse market.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • At least 2 years of professional software engineering experience is necessary.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or Java are required.
  • Experience with Linux servers, Kubernetes, and container runtimes is essential.
  • Fluency in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Helm is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Run and maintain reproducible benchmarks across watsonx.data configurations.
  • Build and curate workload suites that reflect real customer query mixes.
  • Ensure every published result is reproducible with controlled environments and documented methodology.
  • Develop dashboards that surface trends and regressions for various audiences.
  • Own the lifecycle of dedicated performance environments supporting watsonx.data.
