The Optics Engineer position at IBM focuses on fiber optics design and integration into subsystems within the Infrastructure team. The role involves collaborating with a cross-functional team to assess vendor optics technology and develop optical technology roadmaps for IBM Z Systems. The engineer will also engage with various engineering disciplines to solve complex integration challenges and support supply chain strategies. This position offers the opportunity to lead research and development efforts in data center connectivity and optical technologies.

• Bachelor's Degree in Optical Engineering, Photonic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
• Prior industry or educational experience implementing optical technologies through research or product design.
• Lab experience with optics and vendor management skills.
• Strong leadership, time management, and project management skills.
• Proficiency in data analysis and Python.

• Lead the qualification, verification, and integration of optical technologies into IBM Z Systems.
• Develop the optical technology roadmap for next generation IBM Z Systems offerings.
• Manage critical failure analysis efforts related to optical technology and complementary hardware.
• Perform data analysis to identify relevant optical behavioral patterns in manufacturing and in the field.
• Lead optical modeling efforts with Signal Integrity teams and calculate link budgets.
