Job description
The Mainframe Migration Consultant role at IBM involves modernizing legacy COBOL-based applications to Java platforms. This position requires analyzing existing mainframe systems and ensuring a seamless migration to modern architectures. The consultant will work closely with architects, developers, and QA teams throughout the migration lifecycle. This role emphasizes collaboration and innovation to drive meaningful change in client systems.
Requirements
- Legacy knowledge of COBOL, CICS, VSAM, DB2, JCL, and SQL.
- Experience with Java, GIT, Gradle/Maven, Oracle, SQL Server, and Postgres.
- Familiarity with SpringBatch, XML, ETL processes, and MS Office.
Responsibilities
- Assess and document legacy COBOL applications, dependencies, and workflows.
- Execute or support COBOL-to-Java code conversion and refactoring.
- Analyze legacy COBOL code and debug generated Java code using Eclipse.
- Preserve business logic while modernizing applications using Java/Spring frameworks.
- Support data migration and system integration.
- Perform testing, validation, and optimization to ensure functional equivalence and performance.
