Job description

The Senior Software Engineer role within the Confluent Developer Productivity team focuses on enhancing the developer experience and engineering velocity by designing and operating internal platform services and tools. This position requires collaboration with senior engineers and stakeholders to deliver solutions that improve cloud operations at scale. The ideal candidate will thrive in ambiguous environments, demonstrating initiative and curiosity about AI-assisted workflows. The role emphasizes building reliable, secure, and scalable services that integrate with existing systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience in building and operating cloud services or large-scale distributed systems.
  • Strong fundamentals in distributed systems and reliability.
  • Proficiency in at least one statically typed language such as Java or Go, and a scripting language like Python.
  • Experience with DevOps tooling such as CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure-as-code.

Responsibilities

  • Design and operate internal developer platform services that are secure, multi-tenant, and scalable.
  • Improve pre-production and performance testing capabilities by automating tests and providing actionable reporting.
  • Explore and integrate AI-assisted workflows for developers, evaluating tools and running data-driven experiments.
  • Deliver projects end-to-end in a collaborative manner, including writing design documentation and managing implementation.
  • Contribute to team culture by participating in on-call duties, mentoring junior engineers, and evolving best practices.
