Job description

The Software Engineer position at Apple's iCloud Mail team focuses on building and maintaining the infrastructure that supports the Mail service used by millions of users. The role requires a strong background in C/C++/Java and experience with high-performance, scalable systems. Team members will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to deliver creative features on time. Quality is paramount, with an emphasis on writing comprehensive tests for both new and existing functionalities.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with C, C++, or Java
  • Strong hands-on experience with debugging and analyzing crashes or core dumps
  • Strong knowledge or strong desire to work on cloud infrastructure
  • Good knowledge on SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Experience building public facing APIs and/or services
  • Practical experience with architecture and design of cloud-scale systems
  • Familiarity with modern server scaling technologies on Linux
  • Practical experience designing, building and maintaining large-scale, high-performance systems and/or frameworks
  • Experience working on small teams as well as cross-functional collaboration
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a loosely structured organization
  • Highly professional, with the ability to deliver solid work on a tight schedule
  • Secondary scripting language experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of containerized environments a plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and deploy software for the Mail service infrastructure
  • Maintain the technology stack and craft new functionality for iCloud Mail
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Write functional specifications and design documents
  • Build comprehensive unit and end-to-end tests for new and existing features
