Job description

Qualcomm's Advanced Robotics team is seeking a Principal Robotics SLAM and Positioning Lead to architect and own the localization and mapping services for their AI-first robotics software platform. This role involves developing a modular SLAM and state estimation stack that operates reliably across various robotic systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SLAM, sensor fusion, and system observability, and will collaborate with multiple teams to deliver production-ready capabilities. This position is critical for enabling intelligent and scalable robotic systems across diverse industries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 6+ years of Systems Engineering experience, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of experience, or a PhD with 4+ years of experience.
  • 8+ years of experience developing SLAM, localization, or state estimation systems for real-world robotic or autonomous platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ with production-grade software engineering practices.
  • Deep understanding of multi-sensor fusion, calibration, and probabilistic estimation.
  • Experience delivering systems that run continuously on real robots, not just in research prototypes.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end architecture for Qualcomm’s SLAM and positioning services.
  • Drive the transition from algorithm prototypes to robust, production-grade services.
  • Establish design principles for determinism, observability, recoverability, and scalability.
  • Lead the design and implementation of calibration, state estimation, localization, and map management services.
  • Partner with robotics middleware, controls, perception, and hardware teams for seamless integration.
  • Establish SLAM KPIs for accuracy, robustness, latency, and recovery behavior across platforms.
  • Drive CI/CD practices, test automation, and release readiness criteria for localization services.

Benefits

  • Qualcomm offers competitive compensation, annual bonuses, stock programs, comprehensive healthcare coverage, retirement plans, wellness programs, parental leave, flexible work options, and professional development opportunities.
