The role involves architecting robotic and collaborative robot cells for AWS's automation solutions, focusing on eliminating manual assembly variability. The Manufacturing Automation Design & Engineering team is responsible for designing, validating, and deploying automation systems across global contract manufacturer sites. This position requires expertise in robotic systems and collaboration with external automation solution providers. The engineer will work in a fast-paced international manufacturing environment with significant travel to contract sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or equivalent.
- 7+ years designing and deploying industrial robotic systems and/or collaborative robots in manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in robot programming and offline simulation using various programming languages.
- Experience designing end-of-arm tooling for automated assembly.
- Knowledge of industrial robot safety standards and risk assessment methodologies.
- Experience with vision-guided robotics and force/torque sensing for precision assembly applications.
- Experience with precision torque measurement and inspection devices.
- Experience designing standardized robotic work cells for replication across multiple manufacturing sites.
- Experience with PLC integration and industrial communication protocols.
- Experience leading technical evaluations and acceptance testing of automation vendors.
Responsibilities
- Design robotic work cells from concept, including cell layout and safety zone definitions.
- Program and optimize robot paths for various automated operations.
- Design human-robot collaborative workflows for cobot applications.
- Conduct safety assessments per relevant industrial standards.
- Lead external automation solution providers in solution design and acceptance.
- Create standardized work cell replication packages for deployment across all contract manufacturer sites.
- Conduct ROI analyses and technology evaluations for new robotic solutions.
- Validate automation cells against cycle time, quality, and reliability targets.
