The role involves optimizing production line layouts and capacity modeling within the automation architecture for Amazon Web Services' Hardware Engineering team. The Manufacturing Automation Design & Engineering team focuses on designing and deploying automation solutions across global contract manufacturer sites. The engineer will work in a fast-paced environment, integrating robotic cells and manual workstations to enhance throughput across various product families. This position requires collaboration with site teams to implement layouts and validate production targets during ramp-up.

• BS/MS in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent.
• 5+ years of experience designing production line layouts and capacity models in high-volume manufacturing.
• Experience with time/motion studies, line balancing, takt time analysis, and value stream mapping.
• Proficiency in layout design tools such as AutoCAD and factory simulation software.
• Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher).
• Experience with automated line design integrating robotic cells with manual stations.
• Experience in electronics, PCB assembly, or server hardware manufacturing environments.

• Design automated line layouts with robotic cell positioning and material flow paths.
• Conduct time/motion studies and line balancing to achieve target cycle times.
• Develop capacity models with bottleneck identification to support production planning.
• Create standard work documentation and throughput models applicable across contract manufacturers.
• Perform site-to-site benchmarking on throughput and labor productivity.
• Own value stream maps identifying non-value-added steps and automation opportunities.
• Design floor layouts for automation proof-of-concept labs.
• Partner with contract manufacturer site teams on layout implementation and validate throughput targets.
