Job description

Apple Sports is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to enhance the user experience of sports through the Apple Sports app and Apple TV. This role involves collaborating with top engineers to create reliable and scalable solutions for real-time sports data processing. The engineer will focus on building high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that ensure exceptional performance and reliability. This position also offers the chance to mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of learning within the team.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience in building and deploying scalable, distributed systems in a production environment.
  • Strong proficiency in Java, with experience in both Object-Oriented and Functional programming principles.
  • Solid understanding of concurrency control mechanisms, fundamental data structures, and efficient algorithm design.
  • Hands-on experience with databases such as Cassandra and Redis, and stream processing platforms like Kafka.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience building and optimizing real-time data pipelines, including data ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
  • Practical experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes and building/maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Familiarity with stream processing frameworks such as Apache Flink, Apache Spark Streaming, or Kafka Streams.
  • Passion for sports and the sports data ecosystem.
  • Self-motivated with strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain highly available, real-time data services for sports data processing.
  • Build and optimize high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems.
  • Ensure exceptional performance, reliability, and scalability of the systems.
  • Leverage industry-standard best practices for distributed architectures.
  • Collaborate with engineers to deliver impactful features and execute on the technical roadmap.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
