Job description

The Electrical Engineer role at Amazon Leo focuses on process development and electrical failure root cause analysis for a key module in next-generation spacecraft. The position involves collaboration with manufacturing engineers to solve complex technical challenges while ensuring high-quality production. The Optical Inter-Satellite Link Production team is responsible for satellite-to-satellite communication modules, and the Manufacturing Engineering Team plays a crucial role in technical development and execution. This position requires a blend of hands-on work and independent analysis to enhance production efficiency and capacity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience with electro-optical hardware development, analog and mixed-signal board-level design, and high-speed circuit design.
  • 3+ years of experience with design or test of circuit boards with complex microcontrollers, system-on-chip (SOCs), or FPGAs.
  • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years’ industry experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality metrics, process characterization and mapping, Product Quality / Reliability / Improvement techniques, LEAN Manufacturing, DFM/DFT, and Continuous Process Improvement.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software tools for test automation such as NI, dSPACE, Python, C/C++, and Labview.
  • Familiarity with digital interface protocols like SPI, I2C, LVDS, CAN, and Ethernet.
  • Understanding of data converter electrical characteristics, architectures, and design tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design, develop, and improve production processes through collaboration with manufacturing engineers.
  • Lead production electrical failure root cause analyses and troubleshooting.
  • Serve as a technical lead on electrical systems and drive yield improvement through process changes.
  • Develop standard rework procedures, test coverage improvements, and provide PCBA level DFM feedback.
  • Investigate and introduce new manufacturing test technology and methodologies to enhance production efficiency.
  • Work on the shop floor with production teams to implement new processes and solve technical blockers.
  • Conduct independent development work and failure root cause analysis to improve production processes.
  • Collaborate with others on new design introductions and production process change management.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
