Job description

The Senior Scientist in Downstream Process Development at Elanco will provide scientific and technical expertise for the development and launch of new biological drug substances. This role is part of the Biopharma Technical Development team located in Indianapolis, IN, focusing on downstream process development for monoclonal antibodies and therapeutic proteins. The position requires strong organizational management and communication skills, along with cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will lead projects and people while ensuring successful tech transfers and commercialization.

Requirements

  • MSc or PhD in chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, or chemical engineering.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with a PhD or 12+ years with an MSc in downstream biologics process development.
  • Strong understanding of protein purification development processes.
  • Experience with tech transfer processes and regulatory filing procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific expertise in downstream process development for biologic programs.
  • Apply Quality by Design (QbD) principles to process development.
  • Lead and contribute to risk assessments supporting product development stage-gate reviews.
  • Develop representative scale-down models from commercial-scale operations.
  • Author and review source documents for regulatory submissions.
  • Partner with various stakeholders to ensure successful tech transfers and commercialization.
  • Serve as a technical resource to Biopharma Technical Development and manufacturing operations.
