Job description

The Senior Product Design Architect role at Google involves working within a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team to design and prototype new consumer products. This position focuses on the Advanced Architecture team, which is dedicated to shaping the future of Pixel devices through innovative designs and materials. The role requires collaboration with various teams, including Product Management and Industrial Design, to define new products and address engineering challenges. The architect will leverage their expertise in mechanical engineering to contribute to the development of transformative user experiences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, product design, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts and mechanical assemblies.
  • 5 years of experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks.
  • Experience with the design of plastic and metal components, printed circuit boards, and acoustics used in consumer electronic products.

Responsibilities

  • Design new consumer products in consultation with structural and thermal simulation teams to deliver reliable product layouts.
  • Select materials and finishes to balance product requirements such as cost, reliability, and antenna performance.
  • Prototype design options to converge on an implementation for new products.
  • Advocate for new technology and materials development that offer benefits to future product layouts.
  • Communicate updates to leadership throughout the organization and build consensus around paths forward.
