Job description

The AWS EC2 Nitro team is seeking an experienced System Development Engineer to enhance the development of new EC2 machine learning platforms. This role involves collaborating with various technical teams to ensure the operational health of services and improve infrastructure efficiency. The engineer will focus on maintaining build and release systems while ensuring maximum uptime for developers and customers. The position emphasizes work-life balance and offers flexibility in working hours.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of programming experience with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, or Ruby.
  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 3+ years of experience designing or architecting new and existing systems.
  • 4+ years of systems development experience in an IT or data center environment.
  • 4+ years of experience deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • 3+ years of experience in systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement.
  • 1+ years of experience in development, programming, or scripting languages such as Python, Java, Bash, or Perl.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle.
  • Experience in leading the design, build, and deployment of complex software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tools to streamline operations and reduce operational load.
  • Influence and drive operational excellence and best practices within the organization.
  • Identify ways to automate and improve test infrastructure and enhance CI/CD processes.
  • Investigate and recommend best practices for maintaining code quality, fleet health, and service reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers to improve their skills and knowledge of systems.
  • Share knowledge with wider teams and write clear documentation for engineers.
