Job description

The Systems Administrator/Engineer role at Amazon's Worldwide Grocery Stores Tech team focuses on managing production deployments and building automation for the POS Infrastructure team in Austin, TX. This position involves migrating systems from Windows to Linux and developing operational tooling for a modern platform. The team is responsible for maintaining reliable checkout systems across hundreds of stores, directly impacting customer transactions. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
  • 4+ years of Linux experience
  • 4+ years of systems engineering experience
  • 4+ years of site reliability engineering, systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration experience
  • Experience in any of the following: Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell or equivalent
  • Knowledge of configuration management systems, such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or related systems
  • Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens
  • Experience working in a 24/7 production environment
  • Experience in automation or monitoring frameworks, deployment or development

Responsibilities

  • Manage and execute production software deployments for store devices including POS, SCO, servers, and peripherals.
  • Perform strong root cause analysis on production incidents and device failures, identifying systemic issues and driving permanent fixes.
  • Develop infrastructure automation using Python, Ansible, and shell scripting.
  • Build observability solutions such as dashboards, alerting, and health monitoring for fleet-wide device management.
  • Administer lab and test farm environments for pre-production validation.
  • Support platform migration from Windows to Linux across thousands of devices.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for production deployment and device issues.
  • Collaborate with software development teams on operational readiness for new releases.
