Job description
As a Sr. Supplier Development Engineer (Plant Support) – Drive Unit at Rivian, you will be the primary problem solver on the manufacturing floor, addressing supplier-related issues for Drive Unit assemblies and components. This role requires a hands-on approach to ensure production lines remain operational, especially during the critical R2 launch. You will collaborate with various teams to implement immediate containment strategies and drive root cause analysis. Your work will directly impact the quality and performance of Rivian's electric vehicles.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of manufacturing, quality, or engineering-related experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
- 1+ years of automotive supplier quality or quality engineering experience, preferably with automotive powertrains or high-voltage electric vehicle systems.
- Strong understanding of precision machining, casting, torque specifications, leak testing, and automated assembly processes.
- Familiarity with NVH testing data, metrology, and interpretation of complex engineering prints (GD&T).
- Proven ability to thrive in a highly dynamic, physically active plant environment.
- Willingness and ability to work flexible, extended hours to support critical vehicle launches.
- Excellent negotiation, prioritization, and cross-functional communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary responder for line calls related to Drive Unit components and execute immediate containment actions.
- Triage and route supplier issues identified during End of Line dyno testing and leak test reviews to the correct stakeholders.
- Generate Rivian Rapid Response initiatives to implement containment strategies for sub-tier component defects.
- Implement short-term and long-term countermeasures to resolve powertrain roadblocks.
- Author formal documentation and technical spill reports for supplier-related propulsion components.
- Play a critical role in the R2 launch, coordinating containment and resolving complex component issues.
- Perform rigorous root cause analysis and drive corrective actions for Drive Unit field returns and failures.
- Lead regular technical review and component teardown meetings to improve Drive Unit yield and performance.
- Develop, implement, and track key performance indicators for plant-level supplier powertrain quality.
- Train cross-functional plant teams on specialized quality systems and problem-solving methodologies.
