Job description
The role involves working with the Geo domain team at Apple to enhance how users discover local businesses and navigate their surroundings. The team focuses on utilizing innovative machine learning techniques and large language models to improve search relevance and retrieval quality. Candidates will contribute to shaping products that integrate with Siri, Spotlight, and other Apple services. This position requires a blend of strong technical skills, product vision, and a passion for local information.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in information retrieval, natural language processing, machine learning, or deep learning.
- A deep understanding of machine learning theory, including supervised learning, ranking models, embeddings, representation learning, and evaluation metrics.
- Proven ability to apply advanced ML techniques to improve search relevance and retrieval quality at scale.
- Experience leading experimentation, offline evaluation, and online A/B testing for iterative improvements in search quality.
- A Master's Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- A PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, or a related field, or equivalent research experience demonstrated through publications, patents, or significant open-source contributions.
- A track record of publishing or presenting at top-tier research venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ACL, SIGIR, WWW, or equivalent.
- Experience applying LLMs and generative AI techniques to production search or recommendation systems.
Responsibilities
- Use innovative machine learning techniques and LLMs to understand queries and rank documents.
- Monitor recent research literature and translate findings into practical system improvements.
- Independently identify high-impact research directions and drive them forward.
- Move fluidly from paper to prototype to production in tight iteration cycles.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product and design.
