Job description

The mid-career mechanical design engineer will focus on sustaining programs for RAPID, ensuring the success of legacy systems still in high volume manufacturing. This role involves supporting the design, fabrication, and performance characterization of various mechanical systems. The engineer will build technical relationships with vendors and will have the opportunity to learn and eventually own the design process from concept to manufacturing. The position requires excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with engineering and manufacturing teams.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree with no related work experience, Master's degree with 3 years of related work experience, or Bachelor's degree with 5 years of related work experience.
  • Proficiency in 3D solid modeling CAD, preferably ProE/Creo.
  • Familiarity with mechanical manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with engineering, manufacturing, and new product introduction team members.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, fabrication, and performance characterization of opto-mechanical modules and mechanical systems.
  • Build vendor relationships for component fabrication and manufacturing process transfer.
  • Develop innovative designs involving precision mechanisms and Ultra High Vacuum systems.
  • Perform thermal analysis and develop skills in finite element analysis.
  • Take projects from design concept through manufacturing build and address all issues throughout the product phases.
