As a Sr./Staff ML Engineer on Rivian's Perception Team, you will play a crucial role in developing and optimizing machine learning algorithms for autonomous vehicles. Your focus will be on onboard perception tasks such as object detection and sensor fusion, ensuring the safety and performance of customer-facing features. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, taking full ownership of key perception projects. This position is based in Palo Alto, CA, and requires a passion for innovation and the outdoors.

• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience for Sr. level, or 7+ years for Staff level, in developing and deploying deep learning models for autonomous vehicles or safety-critical systems.
• Expert proficiency with Python and one or more deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Strong C++ skills for performance-critical production code.
• Demonstrated experience in architecting, training, and evaluating perception models.

• Independently own the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of perception ML models for autonomous vehicle applications.
• Drive the creation and continuous improvement of production-ready perception models for real-time embedded deployment.
• Architect and build scalable data pipelines and training infrastructure to support ML model iteration.
• Develop tools and processes to evaluate and measure the performance of perception systems.
• Analyze, debug, and optimize perception system performance from offline metrics to live in-vehicle operation.
• Collaborate with teams across machine learning, sensor systems, and data engineering to deliver integrated autonomous features.
• Mentor junior engineers and help shape Rivian's technical roadmap in perception.
