Job description

As a Senior Physical Security Engineer at AWS, you will lead security design initiatives for Amazon Data Centers across the Americas. You will be responsible for developing and improving security design standards while collaborating with a diverse team of engineers and architects. This role requires you to tackle complex security challenges and mentor junior engineers. You will also serve as the primary technical authority for security design projects, ensuring compliance with AWS standards.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering experience in mission critical facilities.
  • 5+ years of experience leading physical security design programs.
  • 5+ years of experience developing and reviewing design documentation for construction.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Security Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving design standards across multiple projects.
  • Experience directing external design consultants and holding them accountable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
  • ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification.
  • CSI Construction Documents Technologist (CDT) certification.
  • Experience applying Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.
  • Familiarity with defense in depth security standards frameworks.
  • Experience with Perimeter Intrusion Detection Systems (PIDS) and integrated security system design.
  • Working knowledge of building codes and permitting processes across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Experience carrying design concepts from exploration through deployment at scale.
  • Experience collaborating with compliance, risk, and operations teams.
  • Experience in physical security system commissioning and testing.
  • Experience researching new designs and technologies.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Ai workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end security design process for physical security systems across multiple data center projects.
  • Drive development and continuous improvement of AWS physical security design standards.
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews and coordinate with various disciplines.
  • Identify, assess, and resolve complex design risks and architectural deficiencies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and champion their adoption where justified.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for physical security design consultants.
  • Collaborate with AWS Security and other stakeholders to ensure design outputs align with requirements.
  • Develop security design scopes of work for RFPs and provide technical input during vendor selection.
  • Mentor and develop junior Physical Security Engineers.
  • Conduct site assessments, construction reviews, and design coordination meetings.
