The Staff Engineer role at Rivian focuses on leading the design of material handling and kitting systems, automation, and lean equipment to enhance operational flow. This position is part of the Supply Chain team, which is dedicated to bringing Rivian's engineered products to life. The engineer will work cross-functionally with internal stakeholders during various phases of equipment development. • 3+ years of experience in designing material handling equipment and automation.
• Experience facilitating the leadership of projects with cross-functional teams.
• Direct experience working alongside a team of fabricators.
• BA in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Requires design skills of material handling equipment and standard engineering concepts.
• Experience in lean material flow equipment solutions.
• Experience designing kitting systems and AGV systems.
• Working knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook programs.
• Experience with AutoCAD, 3D CAD or Solidworks.
• Knowledge of VBA, PLC programming, and Ladder Logic.

• Lead the development of mechanical and electromechanical products by studying process requirements.
• Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods to verify capabilities.
• Analyze CPU/OEE and identify improvement opportunities in equipment design.
• Report equipment design progress and project planning through weekly reports.
• Interface with internal departments to ensure production targets are met.
• Provide direction for the fabrication of all material handling equipment.
• Coach and mentor the engineering team on lean material handling equipment design.
• Promote a safe work environment and maintain positive morale.
• Ensure safety, quality, cost, timing, and throughput targets are achieved on all projects.
• Collaborate with maintenance on equipment designs and provide necessary documentation.
