Job description

The zOS Software Developer role at IBM involves providing advanced technical support for IBM products, particularly focusing on z/OS middleware. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Strong experience with IBM z/OS operating system internals and middleware concepts.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, PL/X, and IBM High Level Assembler.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze system dumps, SVC dumps, IPCS reports, diagnostic traces, and logs.
  • Understanding of z/OS subsystems such as JES2/JES3, VTAM, RACF, WLM, and USS.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the L3 technical support escalation point for complex customer-reported issues on z/OS middleware products.
  • Perform advanced problem determination using tools such as z/OS dumps, IPCS, traces, logs, and diagnostic utilities.
  • Debug product code written in C, C++, PL/X, and IBM High Level Assembler.
  • Collaborate with development teams to reproduce defects, validate fixes, and create code patches where appropriate.
  • Analyze system abends, performance issues, storage violations, and resource contention situations.
  • Provide technical guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 support teams.
  • Work with customers to gather diagnostic data and provide clear and timely updates.
  • Contribute to product documentation, technical guides, and internal knowledge bases.
