Job description
The zOS Software Developer role at IBM involves providing advanced technical support for IBM products, particularly focusing on z/OS middleware. The successful candidate will work closely with development and customer technical teams to diagnose and resolve complex issues. Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED is required, with a Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Strong experience with IBM z/OS operating system internals and middleware concepts.
- Proficiency in C, C++, PL/X, and IBM High Level Assembler.
- Ability to interpret and analyze system dumps, SVC dumps, IPCS reports, diagnostic traces, and logs.
- Understanding of z/OS subsystems such as JES2/JES3, VTAM, RACF, WLM, and USS.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the L3 technical support escalation point for complex customer-reported issues on z/OS middleware products.
- Perform advanced problem determination using tools such as z/OS dumps, IPCS, traces, logs, and diagnostic utilities.
- Debug product code written in C, C++, PL/X, and IBM High Level Assembler.
- Collaborate with development teams to reproduce defects, validate fixes, and create code patches where appropriate.
- Analyze system abends, performance issues, storage violations, and resource contention situations.
- Provide technical guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 support teams.
- Work with customers to gather diagnostic data and provide clear and timely updates.
- Contribute to product documentation, technical guides, and internal knowledge bases.
