Job description

The role is focused on optimizing machine learning compute efficiency within Apple's Platform Acceleration & Compute Efficiency (PACE) team. The team aims to empower software engineering teams by automating manual processes and enhancing the scalability of compute resources. The position involves tackling optimization challenges related to hardware utilization and workload scheduling. The ideal candidate will build systems that automate operations and improve overall efficiency, ultimately accelerating development velocity at Apple.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 or more years building production software, automation, tooling, or data and infrastructure systems.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages.
  • Experience designing data models or telemetry schemas for infrastructure, capacity, or utilization data.
  • Experience running complex systems in a large scale compute, cloud, or infrastructure environment.
  • Understanding of ML training and inference infrastructure, GPU and TPU utilization, and foundation model serving.

Responsibilities

  • Govern compute as code by building systems of record for resource requests, allocations, and utilization.
  • Hunt down ML inefficiency by analyzing inference and training workloads across various hardware.
  • Work on optimization problems related to scheduling, capacity allocation, and serving costs.
  • Eliminate manual workflows by replacing them with automated systems that require human intervention only when necessary.
  • Build telemetry, schemas, and anomaly detection to surface efficiency and cost opportunities.
  • Re-architect processes that fail under scale to ensure they can grow with usage.
  • Create reusable tooling that benefits the entire team without requiring repeated input.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
