Job description
The HVAC NVH Engineer at Rivian is a key member of the NVH Attributes team, focusing on the refinement of noise and vibration in HVAC and thermal systems. This role involves collaboration with various teams to enhance the customer experience through improved sound quality and design. The engineer will lead NVH development for HVAC components and systems, ensuring high performance from concept to production. A hands-on approach is essential, as the role requires physical engagement in testing and diagnostics.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering with specialization in acoustics or vibrations.
- Experience with EV thermal systems and electric compressors.
- Experience with HVAC airflow and aeroacoustic development.
- Strong proficiency with HVAC aeroacoustic and CFD simulation tools.
- Experience developing vehicle-level NVH targets and sound quality metrics.
- Understanding of production variation, manufacturing effects, and EOL testing strategies.
- Experience supporting supplier development and component validation.
- Strong hands-on background in NVH testing, including sound power and modal analysis.
- High confidence in vehicle subjective assessments and correlating customer perception with engineering data.
- Proficiency with modern NVH tools and data analysis environments.
Responsibilities
- Lead HVAC system NVH development across vehicle programs from concept through production launch.
- Define and own HVAC NVH targets at component, subsystem, and vehicle levels.
- Develop and execute HVAC NVH test plans for evaluations.
- Identify and mitigate noise and vibration issues related to HVAC components.
- Perform root cause analysis using various analytical methods.
- Collaborate with design, CAE, controls, and supplier teams to develop NVH solutions.
- Support correlation activities between simulation and physical testing.
- Develop and refine test methods and data processing workflows.
- Conduct subjective vehicle evaluations and translate customer perception into engineering requirements.
- Communicate technical findings clearly through reports and presentations.
