Job description

The Manager, Cost Engineering at Rivian will lead a team of Electrical Cost Engineers in Plymouth, MI and Irvine, CA. This role focuses on overseeing the cost modeling process while actively participating in modeling activities. The position requires a blend of leadership and hands-on responsibilities, emphasizing effective communication and team supervision. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative approaches and improved processes within the Cost Engineering organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field is required.
  • 2+ years of team leadership experience is required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience at an OEM, Tier 1 Manufacturer, or similar company is required.
  • Proven experience in manufacturing processes to support cost model development of automotive components is required.
  • Proficiency in navigating CAD models in CATIA or similar software is required.
  • Ability to interpret and understand design and manufacturing drawings is required.
  • Practical knowledge of Value Analysis/Value Engineering techniques is required.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles is required.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively manage task completion and update cross-functional teams on project status.
  • Define milestones and identify potential risks to ensure timely delivery of cost models.
  • Coordinate the assigned team with support of functional managers to develop innovative approaches.
  • Support the implementation of a comprehensive cost engineering strategic roadmap.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to ensure accurate and timely cost estimates.
  • Review and validate cost estimates submitted by team members.
  • Cultivate a collaborative and innovative team environment.
  • Develop should-cost estimates and projections for various automotive vehicle commodities.
  • Interface with manufacturing plants and suppliers to ensure economical production.
  • Assist Rivian Procurement in analyzing supplier cost breakdowns for cost reduction opportunities.
  • Provide guidance to design engineers for achieving required function at minimum cost.
  • Support competitive vehicle benchmarking for future model development.
  • Conduct Value Analysis / Value Engineering activities to generate cost reduction ideas.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve cost reduction targets.
