The Apple iPhone Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) plays a crucial role in developing mechanical manufacturing processes across Apple's global supply base. This position involves close collaboration with various teams, including Industrial Design and Manufacturing Design partners. The MDE will focus on driving automation and fixture design activities to enhance manufacturing efficiency. This hands-on role requires innovative thinking and technical expertise to optimize production processes and improve part yields.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience working on automation, robotics applications, and fixture design for mass production applications
- BS/MS in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing, automation, mechatronics, robotics, or equivalent)
- Extensive experience using CAD to review and design mechanical components and create engineering part drawings using GD&T practices
- Ability to reconcile DFM feedback with design goals and drive process optimization activities
- Fluent spoken and written English skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly
Responsibilities
- Drive automation and fixture design activities for key manufacturing processes in the enclosure and module spaces
- Innovate on assembly fixture designs through brainstorming and CAD conceptualization
- Work with engineering teams to identify automation needs and conceptualize required automation and modular fixtures
- Drive detailed design reviews and iterate on new fixture concepts with integrators
- Develop modular designs for component fixturing to maximize capital equipment reuse
