Job description

The Hardware Development Engineer will be part of the RDPI team, focusing on designing, developing, and delivering mechanical components and systems for Amazon's next generation of products. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams to transform concepts into manufacturable designs that align with customer needs and business requirements. The engineer will ensure that mechanical designs meet functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints. A strong emphasis will be placed on creating CAD models, conducting engineering analyses, and validating designs through testing.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in robotics, mechanical/mechatronics engineering, systems engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design and advanced assemblies.
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment from prototyping to implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver mechanical design projects from concept through production, ensuring designs meet functional requirements, cost targets, and manufacturing constraints.
  • Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Conduct engineering analyses including tolerance stack-ups, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical designs against product requirements.
  • Collaborate with industrial designers, electrical engineers, and manufacturing partners to integrate mechanical designs with other subsystems.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues during development and production phases.
  • Document design decisions, test results, and engineering changes.
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) activities.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
