The Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) - Automation role at Amazon Lab126 focuses on defining, developing, and implementing controls and software standards for assembly automation equipment. The team is composed of engineers and builders who challenge conventional methods to solve real factory-floor problems. This position requires collaboration with hardware and product design engineering teams as well as local and offshore operations teams. The role emphasizes innovation and the integration of hardware and software to enhance robotic systems at scale.
Requirements
- 2+ years of hardware design and validation of components, subsystems, and systems experience
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, physics, or equivalent
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle
- Experience with hardware/software integration and real-time systems
Responsibilities
- Research, design, and develop hardware sub-components for devices or electromechanical systems
- Design sub-components that match defined specifications and requirements
- Work with CAD modelling software and engineering tools such as SolidWorks and MATLAB
- Work with suppliers to understand fabrication and manufacturing feasibility
- Assist in trade-off decisions regarding materials, availability, and cost
- Deliver quality artifacts including design schematics, component/assembly drawings, and bill of materials
- Troubleshoot, research root causes, and resolve defects
- Document research and design alternatives considered
- Participate in design, scoping, and prioritization discussions
- Escalate risks or problems in solutions or project plans
