The Tactical Engineer role at IBM Research focuses on driving real-time execution within the semiconductor FAB operations team. This position involves working during the night shift to ensure efficient flow of work-in-progress and maximize tool utilization. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to address operational issues and support priority lot delivery. • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
• Experience working in FAB operations, engineering, or production/manufacturing support roles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.
• Comfort operating with limited on-site support during off-hours.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across multiple teams and shifts.

• Monitor and manage work-in-progress flow, hot lots, and priority lots to ensure efficient execution across the FAB.
• Run lookaheads and analyze run paths to identify and resolve risks such as down tools, holds, and process constraints.
• Track tool status, utilization, and performance, coordinating conversions and resolving operational issues in real time.
• Analyze production data and system reports to identify bottlenecks, improve productivity, and support decision-making.
• Lead shift pass down and provide clear communication of priorities, risks, and recovery plans across teams.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for urgent operational issues during the night shift.
• Drive continuous improvement through report enhancements, automation, and workflow optimization.
• Partner with engineering, technicians, and operations teams to maintain alignment on execution priorities and planned activities.
