Job description
The Tactical Engineer role at IBM Research focuses on driving real-time execution within the semiconductor FAB operations team. This position involves working during the night shift to ensure efficient flow of work-in-progress and maximize tool utilization. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to address operational issues and support priority lot delivery. This role is critical in maintaining productivity and driving continuous improvement in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Experience working in FAB operations, engineering, or production/manufacturing support roles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.
- Comfort operating with limited on-site support during off-hours.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across multiple teams and shifts.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage work-in-progress flow, hot lots, and priority lots to ensure efficient execution across the FAB.
- Run lookaheads and analyze run paths to identify and resolve risks such as down tools, holds, and process constraints.
- Track tool status, utilization, and performance, coordinating conversions and resolving operational issues in real time.
- Analyze production data and system reports to identify bottlenecks, improve productivity, and support decision-making.
- Lead shift pass down and provide clear communication of priorities, risks, and recovery plans across teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for urgent operational issues during the night shift.
- Drive continuous improvement through report enhancements, automation, and workflow optimization.
- Partner with engineering, technicians, and operations teams to maintain alignment on execution priorities and planned activities.
