Job description

The Associate Data Engineer role is an entry-level position within IBM Consulting FutureNow, focusing on the development, operation, and improvement of data pipelines and platforms. Associates will work in a collaborative team environment, gaining hands-on experience while learning from experienced practitioners. This role emphasizes strong programming and data fundamentals, with opportunities to progressively take on more responsibility. Ideal candidates will enjoy problem-solving and learning quickly in a technology-driven consulting environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
  • Proficiency in Python or another programming language used for data processing.
  • Hands-on experience with data manipulation tools such as pandas, NumPy, and SQL.
  • Understanding of ETL/ELT concepts and familiarity with relational databases.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines used for analytics, reporting, and machine learning.
  • Assist with extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL/ELT) data from multiple sources into data platforms.
  • Contribute to data cleansing, validation, and transformation activities using Python and SQL.
  • Help prepare datasets for downstream consumption by analytics and data science teams.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and other team members in Agile delivery environments.
