Job description
The Senior Mechanical Engineer role at KLA's RAPID division focuses on developing next-generation semiconductor capital equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation and an ownership mindset, guiding complex engineering efforts from concept through manufacturing handoff. This position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality deliverables. The engineer will work on sophisticated mechanical and opto-mechanical inspection systems, emphasizing performance and manufacturability.
Requirements
- Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2+ years of experience, or a Master's degree with 4+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience.
- Strong technical expertise in structural/FEA analysis, modal & vibration analysis, thermal engineering, or fluid flow/CFD.
- Experience designing mechanical systems and extensive experience with CAD assemblies and detailed drawings.
- Proven track record of taking ownership of sophisticated engineering problems and delivering solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end mechanical design and development from requirements definition through manufacturing release.
- Translate ambiguous or high-level requirements into clear, actionable engineering specifications.
- Perform and guide detailed engineering analyses, including structural analysis, modal and vibration analysis, thermal analysis, and fluid flow modeling.
- Design and optimize systems with a focus on vibration isolation and damping performance.
- Drive concept development, engineering studies, and design decisions, balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability.
- Own subsystem or product-level deliverables, ensuring technical quality, schedule adherence, and accountability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, manufacturing, suppliers, and service teams.
- Support design reviews, validation, and system integration.
- Lead manufacturing handoff, including documentation, vendor engagement, and issue resolution during builds.
