Job description

The Optical Network Development Engineer role within AWS Infrastructure focuses on building, operating, and rolling out global DWDM networks. This position is part of a diverse team that collaborates to ensure high standards of safety and security while providing reliable network services. The team is responsible for developing and delivering optical products that interconnect AWS Data Centers and Points of Presence, ensuring cost-effective data transfer for customers. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and possess strong problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols
  • 4+ years of experience working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • 4+ years of experience with the rollout and operations of large DWDM networks and Optical network technologies
  • 3+ years of experience with optical planning and modelling tools
  • 1+ years of experience in automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, and/or Perl
  • Thorough understanding of deploying and operating high capacity DWDM and Optical network systems

Responsibilities

  • Build, operate, and rollout global DWDM networks
  • Drive scaling of current DWDM designs to meet customer demand
  • Create processes that assist in operating and building the DWDM network
  • Collaborate with other Networking departments on new designs
  • Ensure the DWDM network adheres to defined network standards
  • Review and implement changes on the DWDM network
  • Drive operational excellence projects to improve DWDM network quality and reliability
  • Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions on the network
