Job description

The Power Electronics Engineer role at Rivian focuses on high-voltage power electronics product design in Carson, CA. The position involves identifying and analyzing complex engineering issues while working within a team dedicated to creating industry-leading power electronic conversion units. The successful candidate will report to the Principal Power Electronics Engineer and will engage in both design and testing activities. Requirements

  • Minimum BS Degree in Electrical Engineering, with an MS or advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience working with power electronics is preferred.
  • Expertise in power electronics circuits and concepts.
  • Knowledge of power electronics topologies and key components such as power semiconductors, inductors, transformers, and capacitors.
  • Ability to design the schematic and layout of controller and gate driver circuits for traction power inverters.
  • Experience in power device characterization, simulation, and testing.
  • Comfortable working with high voltages and currents.
  • Experience using software tools such as Spice, Mathcad, and Matlab.

Responsibilities

  • Join a highly capable team to design industry-leading power electronic conversion units.
  • Evaluate and validate subcomponents for traction power inverters.
  • Support characterization and test activities under the direction of senior engineers.
  • Design a circuit card for the traction power inverter.
  • Test traction inverters in the lab, dyno, and vehicle.
  • Analyze circuits using Spice, Mathcad, PLECS, and other tools.
  • Debug issues and solve problems when they arise.
