Job description

The Sr. Battery Engineer will be a key member of the Battery Product Excellence Team at Rivian, focusing on the production of high voltage battery packs for electric vehicles. This role requires a hands-on engineer who can collaborate effectively across various teams and drive continuous design improvements. The ideal candidate will leverage their experience in battery systems to manage supplier relationships and lead improvement projects. A passion for outdoor adventure and sustainability aligns with Rivian's mission to protect the environment for future generations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of work experience in Battery, Automotive, Aerospace, or related industries.
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline at minimum.
  • Working knowledge of EV HV battery architecture and functionality.
  • Previous experience with product launches, production schedules, and release engineering.
  • Strong communication, multitasking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on core engineering principles.
  • Mechanical engineering experience is required, with electronics or controls experience being a plus.
  • Knowledge of high voltage safety best practices.
  • Experience with issue tracking and collaboration tools such as Jira, Trello, or Asana.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis and coordination for changes to externally developed modules and battery packs.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing and Supplier Development Engineering teams to ensure alignment with suppliers.
  • Coordinate with Field Analysis teams to address battery-related field issues.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality teams to resolve battery design concerns.
  • Drive technical root cause analysis and develop mitigation actions for design issues.
  • Communicate lessons learned from production to product development teams.
  • Lead DFMEA change efforts and ensure proper linkage to PFMEA and Control Plan.
  • Prepare and support rework plans and validate rework requirements.
  • Coordinate builds for prototype, pilot, and Start of Production activities.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities focusing on cost reduction and quality enhancements.
