Job description

The System Development Engineer will design, build, and own the executive decision intelligence platform for Amazon's global data center fleet. This role focuses on creating a system that synthesizes operational data into structured executive decisions. The engineer will work on building the platform infrastructure, including data pipelines and decision-framing logic. The position requires a strong emphasis on building reliable and scalable production systems that deliver timely decisions to senior leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of systems development engineering, software engineering, or data engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of experience building data pipelines, ETL systems, or analytics infrastructure using Python, SQL, Spark, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience working with cloud services, preferably AWS.
  • Experience building and operating production data platforms that serve analytical outputs.
  • Experience with at least one web/dashboard framework such as Streamlit, FastAPI, or Flask.
  • Experience designing data models for multi-level aggregation and time-series data.
  • Experience with distributed systems at scale.
  • Experience building decision support systems or intelligence platforms for executive users.
  • Experience integrating ML model outputs into production systems.
  • Familiarity with automated report or document generation.
  • Experience with data visualization libraries or BI tools.
  • Experience building systems with time-series computation.
  • Background in infrastructure operations, capacity planning, or supply chain environments.
  • Experience with LLM integration for text generation or summarization.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the end-to-end decision intelligence platform.
  • Own the system architecture that surfaces structured decisions to executives.
  • Build metric decomposition pipelines.
  • Implement trend computation, projected outcomes, scenario comparison, and threshold-based alerting.
  • Ingest and normalize data from multiple upstream operational systems.
  • Build robust ETL pipelines with defined freshness SLAs and data quality checks.
  • Implement caching, pre-computation, and materialized views for executive dashboard response times.
  • Integrate outputs from science teams into the platform as first-class data sources.
  • Build the serving layer that presents analytical outputs alongside operational metrics.
  • Implement automated narrative generation for executive reviews.
  • Design APIs that support both the web portal and automated report generation.
  • Build interactive executive dashboards with fleet-wide views and multi-level drill-down.
  • Implement data visualizations optimized for non-technical senior leaders.
  • Design the portal to support multiple view modes.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
