Job description
The Principal Data Engineer role focuses on designing, developing, and implementing scalable data engineering and analytics solutions to meet business needs. The position involves building robust data infrastructure and reporting platforms using various technologies, including Oracle SQL, Python, and Snowflake. The engineer will collaborate with product owners and data analysts to deliver high-quality data solutions while ensuring alignment with enterprise strategies. This role also includes mentoring team members and planning organization-wide initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a closely related field and five years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer or closely related occupation.
- Alternatively, a Master's degree in a related field and three years of experience as a Principal Data Engineer or closely related occupation.
- Demonstrated expertise in creating conceptual and logical data models using SAP Power Designer and MS Visio.
- Experience in performing data analysis and profiling within the financial services industry using tools like Microsoft Excel and SQL Developer.
- Proficiency in designing and developing ETL processes and back-end applications according to business user requirements.
Responsibilities
- Drive the execution of multiple development work streams ensuring scalable and resilient design.
- Collaborate with systems analysts and software engineers to design systems and gather project information.
- Develop software system testing and validation procedures, programming, and documentation.
- Participate in daily code reviews and pair programming with peers.
- Architect and develop highly scalable distributed data processing systems.
- Evaluate and recommend technology and frameworks for long-term viability and flexibility.
- Provide guidance, training, and coaching to team members.
- Identify and plan for future resource needs.
