Job description

WPC Engineering is seeking a skilled Data Services Engineer to architect, scale, and evolve data infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments. The team focuses on delivering high-performance and highly available data services that support Apple's financial systems at scale. This role emphasizes driving design excellence and operational reliability while collaborating with application teams. Candidates should be passionate about building resilient infrastructure and innovating in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience operating and scaling distributed data platforms including Cassandra, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and Redis in large-scale production environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects independently from scoping and design through delivery and post-launch ownership.
  • Deep expertise with AWS data services such as Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS, MSK, and ElastiCache.
  • Strong infrastructure-as-code proficiency using Terraform, Ansible, Crossplane, or equivalent.
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized database workloads on Kubernetes in production.
  • Solid Python skills for automation, operational tooling, and platform workflows.
  • Deep understanding of database internals including query optimization, cluster tuning, capacity planning, and failure analysis.
  • Proven experience designing and executing HA/DR strategies and zero-downtime migrations.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience building or improving observability and alerting frameworks for database fleet monitoring.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance requirements in financial data systems.
  • Background in platform migrations including data center-to-cloud and cloud-to-cloud transitions.
  • Experience elevating team technical standards through code review and shared tooling.
  • Exposure to emerging technologies including vector databases or AI-ready data infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and scale data infrastructure across cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Drive the design and operational excellence of critical data platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with application teams to enhance data services.
  • Lead automation initiatives that reduce toil and increase reliability.
  • Design and execute high availability and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Build reusable and scalable automation using infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Monitor and improve observability and alerting frameworks for database systems.
  • Influence and drive alignment across engineering teams.

Benefits

  • Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
