Job description

The Software Engineer will contribute to the development of XR applications for teleoperating Fauna robots, focusing on backend code that ensures a seamless experience for operators. This role involves working at the intersection of XR engineering and real-time robotics, addressing challenges related to low-latency performance and ergonomic design. The team at Fauna Robotics aims to create robots that are safe, capable, and delightful to interact with in everyday life. The position offers an opportunity to solve complex problems in a collaborative environment dedicated to making robotics accessible.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • 2+ years of professional C# development experience, including shipped XR work, with emphasis on Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Experience developing for Meta Quest, HTC Vive, or comparable head-mounted displays using the Meta XR SDK’s / OpenXR stack
  • Strong proficiency with Unity’s gameobject/component model and Unity Editor workflows
  • Experience working with real-time network protocols in Unity for streaming pose, telemetry, and media data between devices
  • Experience building functional UI in Unity for end-users, including in-headset HUDs, interactables and tools
  • Familiarity with RESTful API design and integrating Unity clients with HTTP-based backend services
  • Experience with low-latency video and audio streaming in networked XR applications
  • Experience with event-driven Unity architectures and state machines in mid-to-large codebases
  • Experience authoring high-fidelity interactive 3D environments in Unity
  • Experience designing audio-visual guidance systems, virtual companions, or tutorial flows
  • Experience with full-body and hand tracking pipelines
  • Exposure to teleoperation, robotics, or human-in-the-loop systems
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development workflows
  • Experience navigating 3D asset pipelines to optimize, re-rig, or prepare skinned meshes and models for Unity

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Meta Quest applications built in Unity for XR teleoperation and data collection
  • Write production-quality C# in an event-driven, well-structured Unity codebase using the Meta XR SDK
  • Own the live connection between the headset and the robot, including debugging and extending network interfaces
  • Maintain and improve the pose projection pipeline, calibration flow, and state-aware input system
  • Build functional in-headset interfaces and HUDs for teleoperators and data collectors
  • Iterate on operator-facing flows in Unity Editor, including audio-visual guidance from a virtual robot companion
  • Integrate with backend services to manage data collection tasks, robot selection, and telemetry
  • Collaborate with robotics, ML, and operations engineers to translate requirements into shipping XR features

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
