Job description

This role is part of the Special Projects Team at Rivian, based in Irvine, CA, focusing on the rapid development of vehicle prototypes and marketing builds. The team is composed of engineers, program managers, and technicians dedicated to efficient design and high-quality builds. The role involves transforming concepts into physical products quickly while collaborating closely with fabrication teams. Candidates will work on a variety of projects, from quick-turn prototypes to more complex builds, emphasizing a hands-on approach and adaptability.

Requirements

  • An understanding of vehicle systems.
  • Desire to be hands-on for component and vehicle builds, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • The ability to assess complex problems in unfamiliar systems.
  • The ability to quickly make tradeoffs and decisions to drive progress.
  • Knowledge of prototype processes, including low volume manufacturing and fabrication.
  • The ability to use CAD to design parts and generate drawings.
  • Strong teamwork skills and a positive attitude.
  • An open mind to challenge convention and innovate.

Responsibilities

  • Design components for vehicles including show cars and marketing vehicles.
  • Support vehicle builds from design through release, fabrication, assembly, and in-field usage.
  • Engineer components that advance production design to meet early build timelines.
  • Utilize Catia to design structures, parts, brackets, and other components.
  • Determine when to select off-the-shelf content based on project needs.
  • Interface with production engineers, purchasers, and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of products.
