The engineer will work under the guidance of senior engineers, balancing aerodynamic performance with design aesthetics. The position emphasizes collaboration across various teams to ensure vehicle efficiency and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on fluid dynamics or aerodynamics preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in automotive or aerospace aerodynamics, including internships or Formula Student/FSAE experience.
  • Foundational knowledge of commercial CFD codes and their application to fluid flow problems.
  • Familiarity with CAD software, preferably CATIA V6, for surface manipulation and model preparation.
  • Strong skills in Python or MATLAB for data analysis and workflow automation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical findings to various stakeholders.
  • A 'can-do' attitude with a proven track record of managing projects from concept to completion in a team environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Execute high-fidelity CFD campaigns across Aerodynamics, Soiling, and Water Management to optimize vehicle range.
  • Leverage machine learning and advanced scripting to automate simulation post-processing and identify performance patterns.
  • Collaborate with the Design and Styling teams to provide data-driven feedback on surface development.
  • Support wind tunnel and environmental test programs to correlate digital models with real-world performance.
  • Partner with Autonomous Hardware, Thermal, and Range teams to meet Aerodynamics and Environmental Performance targets.
  • Synthesize complex fluid dynamics phenomena into actionable reports for senior leadership and cross-functional partners.

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave.
