Job description

The Optical Network Engineer role at Google Global Infrastructure focuses on enhancing and maintaining Google's extensive optical network. As part of the Network Engineering team, you will tackle challenges related to network performance and reliability while ensuring efficient operations. This position involves collaboration with various internal teams and external vendors to develop innovative solutions for network management. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience with one or more optical technologies such as long-haul DWDM systems.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
  • Experience in optical propagation modeling, utilizing analytical and numerical methods for fiber-optic system design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop production tooling to simulate performance of the optical network.
  • Define requirements and identify technologies for scaling our transport network in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Engage with external vendors and internal teams to operationalize stable, scalable platforms.
  • Develop tools and processes for automation of network management and operations.
