The Member of Technical Staff at Microsoft Robotics will set the technical direction for the Microsoft Robotics platform, focusing on integrating robotics software, AI models, and cloud components. This principal-level role involves leading cross-disciplinary technical efforts and driving consensus across various teams. The position emphasizes the importance of balancing real-world constraints while ensuring the architecture scales effectively. The role is critical in advancing Microsoft's mission to empower organizations through innovative robotics solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python is preferred.
- Demonstrated ownership of a major platform or large-scale distributed system used in production.
- Experience with robot learning at scale and deploying robots in the real world at fleet scale.
Responsibilities
- Own the multi-year technical architecture for the Microsoft Robotics platform.
- Make foundational design decisions for robotics software and AI models.
- Architect systems that meet demanding real-world constraints.
- Lead the evaluation and validation strategy for autonomy and safety.
- Drive cross-stack technical problems and resolve integration failure modes.
- Connect classical robotics engineering with modern AI.
- Establish engineering standards and review practices for the team.
- Influence direction across various teams and represent the platform in the open-source community.
- Mentor senior and principal engineers to raise the technical ceiling of the organization.
- Track the state of the art across embodied AI and robotics.
