Job description

As a Systems Modeling Mechanical Engineer at AWS, you will bridge the gap between physical infrastructure and virtual simulation, focusing on optimizing data center cooling systems. You will work within a diverse team that includes engineers and specialists, collaborating to ensure safety and security while delivering high-performance solutions. This role involves creating and validating high-fidelity models to predict failures and optimize performance. If you are passionate about innovative projects at hyper-scale, this opportunity is for you.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in data center design, construction, or operations with a strong focus on thermal modeling.
  • Deep proficiency in CFD software such as Ansys Fluent or Cadence.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C++ for data analysis and automation.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical test fixtures, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
  • Experience in designing or testing high-density or liquid cooling systems.
  • Knowledge of BIM/Revit for facility layout.
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE guidelines for data center thermal management.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain high-fidelity system models of data center mechanical systems.
  • Develop and execute CFD simulations to predict thermal performance and airflow distribution.
  • Automate simulation workflows and scenario testing using scripting tools.
  • Lead pre-deployment validation of new mechanical products.
  • Design and execute Hardware-in-the-Loop lab testing for realistic datacenter scenarios.
  • Define and own Design Verification Plans and test procedures for prototype hardware.
  • Perform Root Cause Analysis on design failures and produce validation reports.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to validate integrated system performance.
  • Develop institutional validation frameworks for testing methodologies and simulation standards.
  • Ensure deployed systems are validated against realistic failure scenarios.

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
