The role is for an experienced software development engineer in the EC2 VPC team, focusing on designing and building highly-available services that operate across all AWS regions. The team is responsible for the control plane that powers networking for every EC2 instance globally. Engineers will collaborate with a diverse group of professionals to ensure safety, security, and operational excellence. • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience of new and existing systems
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards and operations
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle
• Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
• Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C#

• Design and build server-side APIs and asynchronous workflows in Java and Kotlin that operate at EC2 scale
• Own services end-to-end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring
• Troubleshoot and root-cause customer-impacting issues across distributed systems
• Write and review design documents for new features and system improvements
• Mentor junior engineers through design reviews and code reviews
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive operational improvements to improve availability
• Build and maintain automation tooling in Python and Ruby to support deployment safety and fleet operations
