Job description

As a Senior Software Engineer II at Confluent, you will be responsible for leading the design and delivery of critical backend systems for the Stream Governance products. This role involves collaborating with a high-performing engineering team to develop cloud-native, multi-tenant services that ensure data quality and integrity. You will take ownership of complex distributed data challenges while providing technical leadership and mentoring to other engineers. Your work will directly contribute to the mission of putting event streaming at the heart of every organization.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and operating scalable production-grade backend systems
  • Strong proficiency in a major backend programming language such as Java, Go, C/C++, or Python
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems and understanding of tradeoffs like consistency and fault tolerance
  • Proven experience running cloud-native services on platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, including mentoring engineers and driving architecture decisions

Responsibilities

  • Develop and architect the cloud-native Stream Governance platform for Kafka and real-time data
  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of complex backend services in a microservices-based environment
  • Drive projects from requirements and design through implementation and production operation
  • Make architecture and technical decisions that balance reliability, scalability, and performance
  • Mentor and support other engineers through code and design reviews
