JobsCustom Timing and Verification CAD Engineer
Job description
The role is for an entry-level engineer in Apple's Custom Timing CAD team, focusing on transistor-level timing verification and formal verification. The team is responsible for developing flows, tools, and methodologies essential for verifying custom silicon designs. The engineer will work closely with analog and digital designers to support and debug critical sign-off disciplines. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the quality and schedule of Apple's advanced chips while fostering technical curiosity and learning.
Requirements
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required, with an MS preferred.
- Programming or scripting experience in Perl, Python, TCL, or a similar language is necessary.
- A foundational understanding of digital or custom IC design and static timing analysis is required.
- Exposure to tools such as NanoTime, ESP, PrimeTime, or HSPICE is a plus.
- Knowledge of dynamic logic, memory arrays, or mixed-signal circuit techniques is beneficial.
- Familiarity with SPICE netlists, device models, and parasitic extraction formats such as DSPF or SPF is expected.
- Knowledge of formal verification tools and concepts, along with experience in SystemVerilog RTL, is important.
- An interest in AI/ML-driven innovation for CAD workflows is desirable.
- Strong communication skills to describe technical issues and follow them through to resolution are required.
- The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Responsibilities
- Support and develop flows for transistor-level timing verification using NanoTime.
- Assist in formal verification processes using ESP.
- Collaborate with analog and digital designers across multiple programs and technology nodes.
- Help set up verification flows and debug issues to achieve clean sign-off.
- Contribute to shaping the quality and schedule of Apple's advanced chips.
Benefits
- Employees at Apple are often offered comprehensive benefits that support physical and mental well-being—flexible medical plans, confidential counseling, onsite wellness centers at major campuses, and resources for fitness and daily life. Families typically receive fertility support, paid parental leave with gradual return, caregiving leave, and dependent-care guidance, while financial perks commonly include stock grants (with purchase discounts), 401(k) matching, and income-protection coverage. Employees also see robust time off, Apple University learning and tuition reimbursement, donation matching and paid volunteer hours, and deep product and partner discounts.
