Job description

NVIDIA is seeking a PhD Research Intern focused on System Software and I/O Architecture to contribute to the development of scalable storage accesses by GPU threads. The role involves co-optimizing architecture, runtime systems, operating systems, and compilers to enhance throughput and energy efficiency. Candidates should have a strong research background and experience in system software and GPU architecture. This position offers the chance to make a significant impact within a leading technology company.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a similar program area.
  • Research experience in computer architecture, operating systems, system administration, compilers, and/or high-performance computing.
  • Experience designing and optimizing accelerated computing applications, particularly in areas like LLM inference and GPU-native database engines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in a specific area of system software with the ability to be a resource within a diverse team.
  • Experience with experimental computer architecture research and software infrastructure development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop novel architectures and system software implementations for scalable multi-GPU platforms.
  • Analyze the interplay between applications, operating systems, CPU and GPU architectures, and efficient algorithm designs.
  • Collaborate with various teams across the company, including software research and hardware engineering.
  • Publish original research and present findings at conferences and events.

Benefits

  • Employees at NVIDIA are often offered comprehensive, day-one benefits—including medical, dental, and vision coverage with HSA support, life and disability insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, and a 401(k) with auto-enrollment. Many roles also have generous time off and holidays, donation matching (up to $10,000), and a wide menu of extras like FSAs, commuter benefits, legal and identity-theft protection, pet insurance, and wellness discounts. Optional programs can include student-loan and home-purchase support, plus family care resources and expert medical services.
